Disney encourages fans to show their Disney side at new official Disney Vine site
October 1, 2013|By Steven Ford, Orlando Sentinel
If you’re of a certain age – and possess a certain degree of appreciation for Disney history – the mention of Disney and “vine” might fill your thoughts with scenes from the “Mickey and the Beanstalk” segment of 1947’s Disney animated feature “Fun and Fancy Free.”
What baby boomer didn’t once laugh in delight at seeing Mickey – with Donald and Goofy in tow – ascend the vines of a giant beanstalk only to confront Willie the Giant. It was, by the way, the last animated feature in which Walt Disney, himself, voiced Mickey.
But today, Disney is going after another segment of its fan base with a different kind of Vine promotion. In the launch of the official Disney Parks Vine account on Tuesday, Disney is encouraging its fans to use the wildly popular video app to create six-second videos that celebrate their love of Disney theme parks and characters.
By using the hashtag #DisneySideContest, fans will have a chance to have their videos selected to appear on Disney’s official Vine site beginning Monday. Each featured video maker will receive $1,000 and a chance to win a vacation to Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort and even a $10,000 commission to make a series of so-called “Disney Side” videos.
The contest runs through the end of the month.
The official Disney Parks Vine account will feature both original and user-generated video content. And though many Vine users might be in their teens, contest participants must be 18 to win.
